Notes about the JD this year

Clarno to Cottonwood - About 70 miles

June 20-25th

It is a high water year, expect flows to be around 5000 CFS. Makes for easy rowing and mediocre fishing. Also, be prepared for a survival type experience with the coolest dampest spring on record. Cool weather gear and rain gear is a must!

Sat Phone and Stuff

Does anyone feel a need for a satellite phone on the trip?

In the past we have only one incident where we actually needed one, and even then, we would have got along fine without one. On the other hand, maybe it is better to have it and not need it than the opposite.

I have seen them advertised for somewhere in the order of $40/week, but I am sure there are some other costs mixed in. Also, my preference would be to have someone else investigate and arrange it. If we want one, I would assume we would split the cost evenly. Please weigh in and volunteer if you are willing to set it up.

Make sure to bring a camp chair, as the ground isn't that comfortable.

It looks like we are on for a meeting on Sunday at my house at 5:00. I heard back from most everybody (evidently there were a couple of you who thought "response required" was secret code for "don't respond to this question" ).

We are closing in on it, folks. It looks like a low water year this year, unless something changes dramatically before thursday, so be ready for lots of rowing, good swimming and fishing, and earlier starts than usual (as upcanyon winds can cause problems in the afternoons).
